What Is The Lightning Network?

The Lightning Network is a "layer 2" network built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain that enables near-instant transactions at extremely low cost. The Lightning Network uses peer-to-peer payment channels to remove the scalability constraints that come with settling every transaction on the blockchain. For more on how the Lightning Network works, refer here.

While the Lightning Network offers unique advantages, it also introduces complexity in the form of channel liquidity which is the amount of value that can be transferred between two connected peers and routed across the broader network. Joltz abstracts this complexity away entirely for developers with well-connected nodes, enabling end users to easily send and receive Lightning transactions.
